Ventura County Supervisors approved a $2.7 billion balanced budget which will beef up resources to deal with homelessness, and mental health issues.
The budget is up $150 million over the current fiscal year. It includes the addition of around 250 employees, pushing the total on the county’s payroll past the 10,000 mark.
One of the major highlights is increased funding for battling homelessness. Ventura County is also stepping up efforts to deal with mental health issues, adding 86 mental health professionals.
The budget also includes special funding for some community projects. It includes money for the Oxnard Family Justice Center, a transitional housing project in Ojai, a wastewater treatment facility for Santa Paula, and to help support the Nyland Acres Community Center.
