UC Santa Barbara made same move last week.

The latest COVID-19 surge has prompted a major Central Coast university to be the second in the region to reinstate an indoor masking requirement.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo added the rule back as of Tuesday. University officials say the numbers aren’t near what they were during the winter surge, but they still pose a health concern.

The Cal Poly masking requirement covers all campus facilities. It applies to all students, employees, and campus visitors regardless of vaccination status.

Prompted by the new surge, UC Santa Barbara reinstated indoor masking requirements last week. As of this time, Cal State Channel Islands hasn’t added back a masking requirement.
