New COVID-19 numbers show surge still in full swing on Central, South Coasts

Ventura County had more than 2800 new COVID-19 cases reported Monday through Wednesday, while Santa Barbara County topped a thousand for Wednesday.

Ventura County's latest two day total tops 2800 new cases.

There’s no sign of the COVID-19 surge easing up on the Central and South Coasts.

Ventura County is reporting just over 2,800 new cases in the county from Monday through Wednesday. The positivity test rate is at 25%, so one in four people getting checked through the official testing system is turning out positive. The rate doesn’t include people who home test.

Santa Barbara County is reporting a one-day total of 1,071 new cases Wednesday, with a 19% positivity rate from testing.

San Luis Obispo County didn't release updated numbers on Wednesday.

Public Health officials in the region say Omicron is fueling the surge. In Ventura County, it’s estimated 95% of the new cases are the variant of the virus.
