Heavy rainfall overwhelmed a sewage pump station in Ventura County, sending a mix of sewage and contaminated rainwater into Lake Sherwood.
Officials with Ventura County's Environmental Health Division say it happened last Thursday on Lower Lake Sherwood Drive. An estimated 8,500 gallons of sewage mixed with rainwater ended up in the lake.
Rainfall overwhelmed a Triunfo Water and Sanitation District sewage lift station, leading to a backup of sewage and rainwater flowing out of two manholes.
Crews brought a larger pump to the scene, and they were able to stop the spillage about three hours later.
