An investigation concluded the fatal officer-involved shooting of a gang member following a pursuit in Ventura County was justified.
It happened in October of 2020. Officers were trying to stop a car being driven by Javier Magana of Thousand Oaks. He was wanted for assault.
There was a pursuit through parts of Oxnard and Ventura, which topped 70 miles an hour at times on surface streets. After sideswiping a car and running over spike strips, Magana stopped on Harbor Boulevard in Ventura.
Investigators say Magana got out of the car, and fired at the closest officer.
They say when the officer saw the man pointing a gun at him, he opened fire, ultimately hitting and fatally wounding the 32-year-old man.
