An investigation is underway into a standoff which led to the officer-involved fatal shooting of a man on the Central Coast.
It happened Saturday night in Lompoc. Police were called to a home on the 700 block of West Cypress Avenue by reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Arriving officers say a man barricaded himself in a home.
They say he eventually came to the door, and pointed a gun at them. Officers say they opened fire, and the man was fatally wounded. The man’s name hasn’t been released yet. There were no reports of anyone else being injured.
At the request of the Lompoc Police Department, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. And, under a new law intended to promote transparency in fatal officer-involved investigations, the state will also review the case.
