Two South Coast schools are among 28 statewide receiving national recognition for excellence.

Oak Park High School in Ventura County and Mountain View Elementary School in Goleta have been named 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The honors are presented by the U.S. Department of Education annually to schools with outstanding academic performance, or ones which have made major progress in closing achievement gaps among the student population.

Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona says this year's group of honorees is especially outstanding because the achievements occurred during a coronavirus pandemic.
