A South Coast university is launching what it’s calling a unique program in Southern California to train bilingual journalists.
Cal Lutheran announced it is going to start offering a Spanish media minor this fall. Media giant Gannett is giving the Thousand Oaks-based university a grant to help start the new program.
Cal Lutheran officials say the need for more bilingual journalists is huge. They note that a study by the Pew Research Center shows that while people of color make up about 40% of the nation’s population, they are only about 23% of the journalism work force.
Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU Radio.
