Santa Barbara County Public Health officials say they are saddened and frustrated by a surge in COVID-19 cases which they say is 100% preventable.
The county’s positivity rate now stands at 8.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is up about 400% in the last month.
61% of the county’s residents who are eligible to be vaccinated are fully vaccinated. But, that means there are nearly 150,000 people in the county who could get shots but haven’t done it. County public health officials say the county is facing what they call a potential “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”
Ventura County Public Health Officials are also concerned about a major uptick in new cases, with 280 documented from last Friday through Monday, along with two additional COVID-19 related deaths. 64% of eligible Ventura County residents are now fully vaccinated.
