Santa Barbara County firefighters are mopping up a 35 acre plus brush fire which at one point threatened some homes on the Central Coast. The Santa Lucia fire is burning near Highway 1 northwest of Lompoc.
The fire started at about 1:30 Friday afternoon, prompting some evacuations near South Constellation Road.
No structures were reported destroyed or damaged. Firefighters hit the blaze hard with air tankers and helicopters. By 4:30, it was 50% contained.
Some firefighters will remain on the scene into Saturday, as they work towards full containment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
