Man Injured In Confrontation On South Coast Dies; Suspect Arrested Could Face Manslaughter Count

A man involved in a fight on the South Coast has died, and the person he’s believed to have been fighting with has been arrested.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 4900 block of Ninth Street in Carpinteria early Saturday morning. They found Eric Romero, who was seriously injured.

The 32 year old Carpinteria man died at a hospital Wednesday.

Detectives say they identified Scott Robert Fleming of Carpinteria as a suspect in the incident. He was arrested in Ventura County on Monday.

The 29 year old man was originally taken into custody for battery and assault counts, but detectives say they are asking the District Attorney’s office to consider a voluntary manslaughter charge.
