Santa Barbara County Jail Inmate Dies

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s officials say a man is dead nearly a week after he tried to kill himself at the Main County Jail.

Custody deputies noticed Joseph Frederick Rose had a major medical emergency in his cell June 25th. Deputies and then paramedics treated Rose until he could be moved to a hospital.

The 47 year old Honolulu man died in the hospital Monday. An investigation is underway, but Sheriff’s officials say the injuries came from a suicide attempt.

Rose had been in custody since April of 2018 for burglary, battery, and probation violation charges.
