It was already a done deal, but a state agency officially closed the book on a controversial proposal to build a new power plant on the South Coast.

The plan created a firestorm of opposition among Oxnard residents and environmentalists, saying it was unfair that the community already had multiple facilities.
Many also argued that the plant, which would have been used during peak electricity demand times, was unnecessary.
Earlier this month, the company notified the California Energy Commission that it was dropping the proposal, and withdrawing its permit application.
This week, the Commission officially terminated the Puente Power Project application.
