Grand Jury Says No Issues In How Santa Barbara County School District Used Some Bond Money

A new Santa Barbara County Grand Jury report says that a school district acted properly in how it used some bond money.

The Grand Jury received questions about the Carpinteria School District allocating seven million dollars for upgrades at a school campus no longer being used as a school.

Declining district enrollment led to the closure of the Main Elementary School campus in 2007. The District is leasing it to a foundation as a base for a number of non-profit and educational programs.

The Grand Jury determined that the use of some of the $90 million dollars in Measure U funding to replace some deteriorating portable classrooms and make other repairs meets the bond measure’s guidelines. Plans include special facilities for infants and toddlers.
