Final preparations are getting underway for the launch of a cluster of high tech imaging satellites from the Central Coast.

A private launch provider is preparing to boost six Skybox communication satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Orbital ATK’s Minotar-C rocket is set to take off next week from the base.

The satellites will join seven Skybox satellites which are already in orbit. They capture medium and high resolution images for governments, businesses, and non-governmental agencies around the world.

Because of the launch time, 2:37 p.m. next Tuesday, if the weather is permitting, the rocket should be visible along much of the Central and South Coasts.
