A rocket carrying a secret military payload was successfully launched from the Central Coast Wednesday.

An Atlas V rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base just before 10 Wednesday morning.

The launch was dedicated to Ventura County firefighter Ryan Osler, who died last year in a traffic accident en route to fighting a brush fire on the base. His wife, and children got a chance to see the rocket over the weekend, and were on hand for today’s launch.  The launch team added a special inscription to the booster to honor Osler.

The launch was originally planned for last year, but was delayed due to the fire. Details of the cargo haven’t been released.
