A South Coast city is opening the door to applicants to fill a City Council seat which became vacant after the person who held it was appointed as Ventura County’s new District Attorney.
Erik Nasarenko stepped down from his Ventura City Council post after being appointed as DA last week. He took over for longtime District Attorney Greg Totten, who recently retired after 18 years as District Attorney.
The City Council had the choice of holding a special election, or appointing someone to fill the remaining two years of the four-year term. The council decided it will appoint someone.
Candidates need to be 18 year or older, and be a registered voter in Ventura’s Fourth District. Applications for the post are due by 5:30 p.m. next Monday. The council will then interview applicants at a public meeting February 20th.
