The Santa Barbara City Council has put the brakes on a plan that could have included paid on-street parking in the popular Funk Zone area of the waterfront and lower State Street.

Concerns about parking lead to the study, but the council spoke strongly about adding fees or adding parking permit machines for street spaces.

The city currently has that system in lots nearby, along with time limit signs on the street.

There will be more free parking added in the area, and all homemade or temporary signs added to the area by property owners will be coming down.

The studied showed that there are currently just over a thousand parking spots in the area.
