Santa Barbara is seriously considering reshaping De La Guerra Plaza downtown, in front of City Hall.

City leaders have looked at various plans over the years, but now $150,000 is about to be allocated for archaelogical work in the historic area of town.

The goal is to find out what's below the surface of the plaza before any digging is approved.

The researchers will delve up to 36 inches down into the dirt.

A team of representatives from different city departments will be part of the revitalization committee, to look at different drawings and do publc outreach in the coming months.
