A Week Of Rain Overfills Dam On South Coast

One of the areas more severely impacted by the California drought has been Santa Barbara County.

The area's main water supply, Cachuma Lake, was 70% below capacity, and  water emergency declaration has been in place for a number of years.

Now, with a week of rain, Gibraltar Dam is spilling heavily into the Santa Ynez River, which heads towards Cachuma.

This is encouraging, but officials say the area is far from water secure.

The last time Gibraltar spilled over was in 2011.
