A local law enforcement agency assisted federal agents in intercepting more than a million dollars worth of illegal drugs.

The Simi Valley Police Department says its officers worked with the Drug Enforcement Administration Friday when they arrested 61-year-old Luis Chavez and 47-year-old Sergio Vega for federal drug violations after seizing 46 pounds of cocaine and two pounds of heroin. The street value is over $1.2 million. The amount of drugs seized would have provided more than 200,000 doses of illegal drugs to drug addicts.

Authorities have arrested a wanted suspect on the South Coast, but not before a wild police chase.

Thousand Oaks Police detectives were investigating 34-year-old Joshua Nation of Newbury Park, who was accused of several counts of felony identity theft and felony domestic violence. When officers tried to stop him Friday afternoon in Simi Valley at East Los Angeles Avenue and 5th Street, the suspect sped away.

A skydiver has set a world record on the South Coast.  

Luke Aikins jumped 25,000 feet without a parachute at the Big Sky movie ranch on the outskirts of Simi Valley on Saturday. He hit the 100-by-100-foot net perfectly, quickly climbed out of it and walked over to hug his wife.  It was broadcast live on the Fox network. 

Eight people were treated for exposure to a chemical cloud following an accident at a Ventura County health club.

It happened just after 10 Friday morning, at Gold’s Gym on the 1300 block of East Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley. Captain Scott Dettorre, with the Ventura County Fire Department, says too much chlorine was apparently put into the pool. He says some of it bubbled to the surface, creating a gas cloud.

Two people were hurt when an SUV crashed into a pizza parlor in Ventura County.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, in a shopping center on the 2700 block of Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley.

The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries, and an employee inside had moderate injuries.

There’s no word yet on what led to the accident.

A joint DEA-Simi Valley Police investigation led to the seizure of more than 24 pounds of methamphetamine, and four arrests.

The investigation is still underway, but narcotics detectives have been working on the case for several weeks. Simi Valley Police say it was a drug dealing operation involving people from Los Angeles and Kern Counties who were importing drugs into Ventura County.

An effort to crack down on prostitution on the South Coast led to the arrests of seven men.

Federal DEA agents and Simi Valley Police say a joint investigation led to the seizure of more than 30 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. Investigators conducted a pair of raids, one in El Monte, and the second in the community of San Fernando. Two men were arrested during the raids, which were the result of undercover operations.
