Plans have been announced for a memorial service for a Ventura County Search and Rescue team member who died during a training mission.

Jeff Dye was struck and killed by a vehicle last Saturday after he and other team members stopped to help a car accident victim on I-5 near Lake Pyramid. 

Authorities have identified a Ventura County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team volunteer who was killed while helping victims of an accident.

They say Jeff Dye was killed while three other team members were injured – two critically -- after a car struck them.

A solo camping trip for a woman in Ventura County’s mountains turned into an adventure when she found herself stranded by heavy snowfall, and had to be rescued.

Brooke Ladoceur went camping at the Chula Vista Campground, on Mt. Pinos Sunday. Mt. Pinos is in the Los Padres National Forest just wesy of Frazier Park.

A woman who died in a paragliding accident on Thanksgiving Day on the South Coast has been identified as a veteran hang gliding and paragliding instructor.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s officials said 56-year-old Marjorie “Marge” Variano of North Carolina, who used to live Santa Barbara, was paragliding with a large group of friends off Gibraltar Road on Thursday when she disappeared. One of the paragliders spotted a down paraglider about 1,500 feet below La Cumbre Peak at the bottom of the cliff in the Santa Barbara County foothills and called 911.

A man who tried to pick wildflowers on a Santa Barbara County mountainside fell down the slope, and had to be rescued after he was injured.

It happened Saturday just north of Summerland, in Romero Canyon.
