The announcement earlier this year that Amazon would open a new order fulfillment facility in Ventura County created some excitement.  The complex off of Highway 101 near Rice Avenue is expected to create 1500 jobs when it opens late next year.

But, will they be well-paid jobs?  And will the facility create environmental problems?

Authorities are investigating the death of a man who apparently fell from the balcony of a third story apartment on the South Coast.

It happened just after 12 Sunday morning in Oxnard.  Police and paramedics responding to the 700 block of Forest Park Boulevard found the body of the man.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A car chase led to an officer involved shooting, and the death of the driver in Ventura County.

Only a few details have been released, but the chase started just after 7 Thursday night in Oxnard.  Police were chasing a vehicle which left Oxnard and headed into Ventura.

Voters in one South Coast community faced a slew of issues ranging from whether to raise the city’s sales tax to how government agencies conduct meetings.

Oxnard voter approved Measure E, a 1.5% percent sales tax hike to beef up public safety and social service programs.  

Detectives are trying to determine what led to the shooting death of a man on the South Coast.

Oxnard Police were called to the 3500 block of Harbor Boulevard just after 10:30 Sunday morning by reports of shots being fired.  They found a man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

Efforts to save him were unsuccessful.  The 48 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.  His name hasn’t been released.  It’s the sixth homicide in Oxnard this year.

Detectives are trying to figure out what led to the death of a young man on the South Coast.

Oxnard Police were called to Cuesta Del Mar Drive at around 10 Wednesday night by reports of a fight.  There was also a report that a shot had been fired.

There’s been an arrest in connection with an incident in which people drove cars into a South Coast park, then did doughnuts on the grass while a protest march was taking place.

It happened Wednesday night, in the downtown Oxnard area. 

As public safety agencies on the Central and South Coasts struggle to get enough masks, one fire department in the region is dealing with the problem by making its own.  Some 20 Ventura County Fire Department firefighters are making masks.

A storm system brought another quarter to half inch of rain to the Central and South Coasts, but more is still on the way to the region.

The parking lot of a drug store on the South Coast was the scene of a tense standoff between a wanted man, and police. Oxnard police officers conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a store on the 2300 block of Vineyard Avenue Sunday afternoon. But, the passenger in the car refused to surrender.

One of the South Coast's  most popular community festivals has been cancelled as a result of coronavirus. It’s an event which has raised millions for the region’s non-profits over it more than three decade long history. But, organizers of the annual California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard announced they are cancelling this year’s event, over safety concerns for visitors, volunteers, and staff.

Voters on the Central and South Coasts said yes to some proposed tax increases, but some school bond measures had mixed results. Ojai voters approved a hike in the hotel bed tax for visitors which will help pay for City of Ojai projects like street repairs. Measure C is expected to raise about $1.3 million dollars a year. And, Lompoc voters okayed a 1% sales tax hike which will help pay for things like public safety in the city.

Voters approved some new tax proposals on the Central and South Coasts, but unofficial results from Tuesday's election don't appear to be as positive for some school bond measures.

In Ojai, voters said yes to a proposal to increase the city's hotel tax from 10% to 15%, to generate an estimated $1.3 million dollars annual for projects like city street repairs.  Lompoc voters approved a proposed 1% sales tax increase to fund everything from public safety to city infrastructure improvements.

One man is dead, and two wounded following a string of shootings on the South Coast. Oxnard Police were called to a mobile home park on the 1300 block of Commercial Avenue at around four Sunday afternoon by reports of a shooting.

Detectives say they are trying to figure out why a Ventura County man stabbed two relatives as they were sleeping in the apartment they shared. It happened at around 5 a.m. Sunday, on the 200 block of West Vineyard Avenue of Oxnard.
