The State Coastal Commission is set to consider a plan Friday to provide protection for more than 100,000 acres of land along the Santa Barbara County coastline.

The Commission will look at the Gaviota Coast Plan, which is intended to protect environmental, agricultural, and recreational land in a 158 square mile area. It’s the first major update to the plan since the 1980’s, and is the result of years of effort in the county.

CalTrans and a subcontracting crew were on the side of a rocky mountain this week on the Gaviota curve.

Workers were repairing rock nets there that prevent large boulders from coming down onto the 101 highway.
