A South Coast college is going to offer a new program which could help fill a gap in the technology field, and launch students into well paid careers.  Oxnard College is set to launch a certified cybersecurity program in the Spring, 2021 semester.

College officials say there is a big shortage of cybersecurity analysts.  They say the one year program will train students for high paying jobs which are available now. 

A new Ventura County Grand Jury report says most of the municipal governments in the county are vulnerable to cyberattacks.

The report doesn’t disclose any specific weaknesses it discovered during its investigation, because it doesn’t want to make them public to potential hackers.  But it notes that eight of the cities in the county have less-than-secure addresses for their websites.

Last year, almost 50,000 Californians were victims of cyber crime, according to the FBI’s internet crime report. 

On the weekend of June 22, the next generation of Californian cyber crime fighters will be competing on the Central Coast. 

A Central Coast university has received a major grant to come up with ways to beef up cybersecurity. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation is giving Cal Poly San Luis Obispo $150,000 for research.

More than 160 middle and high school students took part this weekend in a cybersecurity contest in Ventura County as part of a statewide competition.

Moorpark College was one of 12 regional sites to host the California Mayors Cyber Cup.
