A number of efforts are underway to beef up train service on the South Coast, to get more people to use it, and to make it more practical for commuters. One of the latest efforts includes doing something about the bare bones train station in Goleta, turning it into a full service transportation hub.

State officials announced a massive new grant to support commuter rail service between Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

The Ventura County Transportation Commission and the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments launched the new rail service between the counties at the beginning of this month.

The new commuter train that will be rolling from Ventura County to Goleta and back starting April 2nd has many prospective takers.

In a meeting with large employers Tuesday morning, Gregg Hart with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments said about 1,000 drivers have indicated they want to leave their cars behind to ride the rails.

The agency which oversees rail service on the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo corridor approved new peak rail service. It’s considered a key approval for the plan.
