If you have a dog in Santa Barbara's busy downtown, Santa Barbara Police want you to know if has to be leashed and cared for.

Police officers on a special patrol Wednesday went searching for unattended dogs, or negligent dog owners to make sure the streets are safe especially in the busy business district.

A 21 year old Goleta man who adopted a Chihuahua in April has been arrested in connection with the dog's death.

Kyle Barbre was booked on suspicion of animal cruelty.

A 24 year old man is in the Santa Barbara County jail after being arrested in a more than five year old murder case.

In September of 2010, Samuel Bautista Justo was found stabbed to death in his apartment on the 700 block of Castillo Street in Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara Police detectives identified an acquaintance of the victim as a suspect. However, they discovered the 18 year old, Eutimio Osvaldo Aispuro, had fled to Mexico. They worked with federal law enforcement officials and the Mexican government to try to locate and arrest Aispuro.

After months of strained relationships between city leaders, bike groups, residents and planners, the city of Santa Barbara is now closer to reaching an agreement on a bicycle master plan.

A new Santa Barbara County Grand Jury report is giving high marks to the success rate of a camp for male juvenile offenders operated by the county, and says it could be expanded to do even more.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives and federal undercover agents say they’ve made the 38th, and final arrest in connection with a years long investigation into a drugs and weapons ring.

Four local and federal agencies were involved into what they call a complex case which led to the seizure of 45 weapons, 11,000 rounds of ammunition, and more than three quarters of a million dollars in illegal drugs.

The investigators say the operation was involved in selling drugs like heroin and methamphetamine as well as guns in the Santa Maria Valley.

Matthew Abrams, 33, has been missing since May 14th.

The Santa Barbara resident was last seen in Monterey County, in the Big Sur area, driving a blue Subaru Forester.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office has asked for the public to share his image and any information that could be helpful in the search.

A coalition against gun violence in Santa Barbara held a rally Thursday to talk about the UCLA murder-suicide, and also laws to prevent guns from getting into the wrong hands.

The Westmont College community is mourning the death of an alumnus: an engineering professor, and father of two, was killed in a murder-suicide on the UCLA campus Wednesday.

William Klug, 39 years old, was an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

A man is recovering after he exited a moving vehicle on the 101 freeway Monday morning.

The smaller SUV was southbound near the Milpas Street exit at the time.

When emergency crews responded, they say they thought that a pedestrian had been hit on the freeway.

A violent chase in northern Santa Barbara County ended with a shootout and the death of suspect Fernando Castro.

Castro was the focus of a search by several law enforcement agencies fro the Bay Area down the coast.
