As former first lady Nancy Reagan is remembered over the weekend, so are the Reagan family's many trips to the South Coast.

Their hideaway from Washington, D.C.?

Rancho Del Cielo in the hills of Santa Barbara County.

It's where then-President Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan would spend many vacations while in office back in the 1980's.

The Reagans would often land at Point Mugu and either take a motorcade up Highway 101 or the Marine One helicopter to their 688-acre ranch about 45 minutes from Santa Barbara.

It's also where the Reagans would ride horses daily, under the watchful eye of the press perched on a far-away mountaintop.

The family also hosted former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and his wife Raisa in the early 1990's, as well as a high profile visit from Queen Elizabeth in 1983 amid a driving rain storm.

Only occasionally would the Reagans come down from the ranch they called the Western White House, but in the summertime they hosted a tri-tip barbecue for the traveling and local press in Hope Ranch.
