Waterfront Pipeline Under Construction As South Coast City Builds Desalination Plant

Work is underway on a water pipeline for Santa Barbara's desalination plant

The City of Santa Barbara is working on a waterfront pipeline project to bring ocean water to an under-construction desalination plant.

Green fencing is up over a large area, and heavy equipment has moved in for a digging project on the beach at Chase Palm Park east of Stearn's Wharf.

This is the area where an ocean inlet pipe with a special screen will draw in salt water on a route under Cabrillo Boulevard and the railroad tracks, over to the Yanonali street desalination plant.

It is expected to produce approved drinking water by January 23 of next year.
