It was an upbeat celebration of our military veterans – but one that looked very different. Just 100 invited guests were on hand, all in face masks and seated outside and socially distanced, with everyone else watching via Zoom.
A flyby of the Tiger Squadron of vintage military aircraft kicked off this year’s Veteran’s Day at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. The library had to seek special permission to hold the event because its been closed due to COVID.
Guest speaker Republican Congressmen Mike Garcia of Santa Clarita, himself a former Navy pilot, reflected on what the day means.
"It means slowing down as a nation and remembering who we are and where we came from," he told KCLU News.
Former Navy Seal Dan Crenshaw, who lost an eye during an IED attack in Iraq, and is now a Republican member of congress in Texas, told KCLU that the day is about remembering the sacrifice of our military.
"Our message should be never forget," Crenshaw said.
