Ventura, San Bernardino Counties At Odds Over What To Do With Sexual Predator Set For Release

Officials in two counties are wrangling over what to do with a sexually violent predator from Ventura eligible for release from a state mental health facility. Ross Leo Wollschlager was convicted in 1983 of two rapes. Then, in 1989, while still on probation, he was convicted of child molestation.

He was released from prison in 1996, but a judge ordered that he be committed to a state mental health facility as a sexually violent predator. After 23 year, the court has found that Wollschlager has made progress, and will not pose a threat while under appropriate supervision.

But, officials say a search failed to find an adequate supervised place for his release in Ventura County. His attorney went to a judge who approved his release to a facility in San Bernardino County. That county is objecting. A hearing will be held in Ventura November 7th to try to settle the issue.
