Ventura County Woman Gets Two Year Plus Jail Sentence For Embezzling From School Group

A Ventura County woman has been ordered to spend more than two years in county jail after entering guilty pleas to charges she embezzled more than $150,000 from a Moorpark school.

Jennifer Leporati was treasurer of the Flory School Booster Club.  It was a non-profit formed to raise money to help support the school’s science, technology, engineering, and math programs.

But Ventura County prosecutors say for more than two years, the 47-year-old Thousand Oaks woman stole cash from the group’s fundraisers and wrote unauthorized checks to herself.  She pled guilty to four felony grand theft charges, as well as a count of creating false evidence.

In addition to a 28 month jail sentence, plus 32 months probation, Leporati was ordered to pay $158,000 in restitution to the school group.
