Caltrans, and Ventura County transportation officials are developing a plan which aims to relieve traffic congestion on Highway 101, and you can weigh in.

The idea is to widen the 101 corridor between Highway 23 in Thousand Oaks and Highway 33 in Ventura.

“It would be adding one carpool lane in each direction for the entire 28-mile stretch of the 101,” says Darren Kettle with the Ventura County Transportation Commission.

He says 12% to 13% of commuters in the county carpool.

“Those commuters on the 101 will be able to go into the Express Bus and Carpool Lane. And then the mixed flow lane, which are the lanes that people drive alone or trucks are driving in, will have more space and relieve the traffic on those mixed flow lanes,” Kettle says.

He says the estimated cost of adding a carpool lane in each direction is about $800 million dollars.
