An 80 year old Vietnam veteran who lives in Ventura County got a phone call from the President telling him he will receive the nation’s highest military honor.
Marine Sergeant Major John Canley of Oxnard got a phone call from President Trump confirming that the veteran would receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Members of Canley’s unit say when they were trapped during a major battle in 1968, the sergeant rescued wounded men and repeatedly took on attackers.
Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village has been working with members of the Marine unit to get the honor for Canley. Her office confirmed Canley will receive the medal. There’s no word yet on when the ceremony will take place.
