Ventura County Gets New Environmental Health Director

A man who’s worked for Ventura County for a quarter of a century has been selected as the county’s new Environmental Health Director. Charles Genkel has worked for the county in several capacities over the years.

He’s been Ventura County’s Environmental Health Manager for Technical Services and Vector Control since 2010. Genkel fills the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime Environmental Health Director Bill Stratton in January.

The agency oversees the county’s efforts in a number of areas including food safety, hazardous materials and hazardous wastes management, and mosquito abatement.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
