Van plunges off Highway 101 at Mussel Shoals, hits parked cars and damages motel

Investigators are trying to figure out why a van plunged off of Highway 101 in Ventura County, hitting some parked cars and damaging a motel building.

It happened at around 5:30 this morning, on the 6600 block of Old Coast Highway. That’s in the area known as Mussel Shoals, between Ventura and Carpinteria. The van plunged off the 101 where the highway curves slightly, smashing into the vehicles and damaging the Cliff House Inn.

The accident started a vehicle fire which was quickly knocked down by Ventura County firefighters. No serious injuries were reported.
