Two Storms Pass Through Central, South Coasts But Cave Brush Fire Still Not Fully Contained

A DC-10 makes a drop on the Cave Fire November 26th

Even though a pair of storms have passed through the Central and South Coasts since the Cave Fire started November 25th, the blaze is still not technically fully contained. The fire stands at 90% containment. Smoke from the fire hasn’t been visible for more than a week, and the focus has been on looking for smoldering underground hot spots.

Rain has hampered efforts to reach remote, and rugged terrain to complete containment lines.

The 3000 plus acre blaze led to mandatory evacuations for more than 5000 people, but firefighters were able to gain the upper hand in two days, allowing everyone to return home before Thanksgiving. It closed Highway 154 to through traffic for a week. But, no homes were lost to the fire.

The projection for full containment has been pushed back to December 13th, although it could potentially happen a bit sooner.
