Two men accused of recklessly firing a gun were arrested following a standoff in Isla Vista Sunday.

Two men are facing a variety of charges after Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say the duo fired some gunshots into the ocean in Isla Vista, and then forced a nearly hour long standoff with officers.

It started at around 2 a.m. Sunday, when deputies responded to a report of someone firing gunshots in Isla Vista’s Del Playa area.

The two suspects left the scene.  Using a description from witnesses, officers spotted their vehicle, and stopped it on nearby El Colegio Road.  The men refused to leave the car.  There was a tense standoff which ended more than 50 minutes later, when the men surrendered.

Deputies say they recovered a pistol and ammunition from the vehicle.  Brayan Aguilar-Jimemez of Goleta, and Raul Cortez were arrested on a variety of charges ranging from negligent discharge of a firearm to resisting arrest.
