The driver of a water truck who was trying to be a good Samaritan died when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled over a cliff in Ventura County. It happened at about nine a.m. Wednesday, on Deer Creek Road near the Pacific Coast Highway.
The driver was northbound on Deer Creek Road when he pulled over on the shoulder of the mountain road to let other vehicles pass. But, CHP investigators say the truck started rolling backwards, and went over a cliff.
The truck was carrying 20,000 gallons of water. It plunged more than 2,000 feet down the steep mountainside before coming to a stop. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.
