Transient Causes Scare At South Coast Elementary School; Campus Put On Lockdown

A transient caused a brief scare at a South Coast school, leading to it being placed on lockdown.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say the man walked into the office at Ellwood Elementary School in Goleta just before 11 am. Wednesday, and asked for help. They say he then made a suicidal statement, and locked himself in the office bathroom.

The school was placed on a precautionary lockdown, but deputies were able to get the man to voluntarily come out of the bathroom and surrender. He was arrested for a warrant for a failure to appear in a petty theft charge out of Ventura County, as well as for possession of drug paraphernalia.
