Train Service Resumes After Small Brush Fire Closes Rail Line On South Coast

Train service has resumed after being shut down Thursday afternoon in the area around Mariposa Reina on the Gaviota coastline.

A brush fire had broken out at around 1:30 p.m., and Santa Barbara County officials sent six fire engines and a helicopter to the area to combat the blaze.

The fire burned about six acres, with hose lines crossing over the railroad track as firefighters doing work on either side.

Both the Pacific Surfliner and Union Pacific Freight trains travel through the area. Train service was shut down for about two hours.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No structures were threatened.
