A trio of young campers apparently didn’t look at the weather forecast before heading out into Ventura County’s mountains, and had to be rescued by helicopter after they became stranded. The Granada Hills men went on a backpacking trip in the Rose Valley area of the Los Padres National Forest.
They started the trip on Thursday, and were supposed to return home Saturday. When they failed to make it home, family members called the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies made their way through a flooded section of Highway 33, where they found the campers vehicle at the trail head. The officers discovered the men about a mile up the trail, but the campers were trapped by the overflowing Sespe River.
A Sheriff’s Office helicopter picked up the three men, and flew them to safety. They were cold and wet, but unhurt.
