Three Decade Old Festival On South Coast Latest Victim of Coronavirus

Mar 19, 2020

One of the South Coast's  most popular community festivals has been cancelled as a result of coronavirus. It’s an event which has raised millions for the region’s non-profits over it more than three decade long history. But, organizers of the annual California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard announced they are cancelling this year’s event, over safety concerns for visitors, volunteers, and staff.

It had been set for mid-May.

Chairman Dean Kato says rescheduling it this year isn’t practical, with the region’s strawberry season ending by late spring. The festival attracts about 50,000 people, and raises more than $300,000 annually for non-profit groups.
