Struggling South Coast Business District Gets Interim Executive Director

The head of one of the South Coast’s biggest arts events has taken a new job which could test her creativity.

Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Executive Director Robin Elander has been named as the interim head of downtown Santa Barbara’s business association.

The Downtown Santa Barbara organization has more than 1200 members, and is the city’s largest business district.

The downtown area was already having problems with vacancies before the coronavirus crisis hit.  The loss of tourism due to the situation is expected to add to the problem.

This year’s Solstice parade, and celebration in Alameda Park had already been cancelled due to the coronavirus situation.
