Storm Damage Closes Highway Linking Central, South Coasts; Part Of Highway 154 Closed Indefinitely

A blocked culvert flooded a section of Highway 154 between Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley, closing it indefinitely

A section of a major state highway connecting the Central and South Coasts is closed due to storm damage, and there's no word on when it may reopen.

A culvert beneath Highway 154 near Lake Cachuma is jammed with debris.  It sent water and mud flowing over the highway.  Complicating the situation is the fact that the culvert is more than 30 feet below the surface of the highway.

Crews are working to try to remove the blockage, but for now Highway 154 is closed from Santa Barbara to the Highway 154-246 interchange.  People trying to travel between the Santa Barbara area and the Santa Ynez Valley can use Highway 101.
