State Offering Property Tax Deferrals In Ventura, Santa Barbara Counties To Those Meeting Guidelines

As a result of the region’s brush fires and flooding, property owners in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties who meet certain requirements still have time to have their property taxes deferred. The state Property Tax Postponement program allows delayed payment for homeowners who are at least 62, or disabled, and meet income guidelines.

The deadline to apply is June 1st. In the 2017-2018 tax year, some $2.9 billion dollars in tax payments were postponed through the program. The program is in place in 22 counties impacted by fires, and floods. Funding for the program is limited, and people must reapply every year.

The interest rate for postponed payments is seven percent, and the state places a lien on the property until the money is paid.
