State And Local Officials Meet To Discuss Continued Drought

Even once it rains, drought-related issues will not be going away any time soon.

That was the conclusion that state water resources officials and emergency leaders came to in Santa Barbara on Monday.

In a meeting with local officials, the discussion landed on questions of supplies, pipelines, the planned desalination plant, and conservation goals.

The Santa Barbara area between Gibraltar Lake and Cachuma reservoirs only has a tiny bit of water left without imported water supplies.

Until it rains long and hard, the combined officials urged sustained conservation.

They say that 10 to 15 inches of rain is needed for saturation in the hills, with another 10 inches more to bring the lake levels back up.
