America's Teaching Zoo is building a new, larger enclosure for its African Lion

A South Coast zoo has raised more than a half million dollars to build a new, larger home for its lion. America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College has a five year old African Lion. More than 100 donors contributed money to the effort, with Moorpark College adding $200,000. The new enclosure is being named after the lion, and will be called Ira’s Kingdom.

The zoo is home to more than 130 animals, many of which are exotic or rare species. It has a one of a kind program teaching people how to be animal keepers.

While it’s a teaching facility, the zoo at Moorpark College is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
