South Coast University Basketball Team "Drafts" Teenage Cancer Survivor

A South Coast University's basketball team has volunteered to support a young cancer survivor by making him an honorary member of their squad.

14 year old Logan Wagener is a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was diagnosed in May of last year, and after undergoing treatment, his prognosis is good.

Wagener also got help from the Thousand Oaks-based Cancer Fit foundation, which scouted the teen to California Lutheran University’s basketball team.

The team staged a mock draft ceremony for him, and on Saturday, he watched the team play, then joined them in the locker room for a pep talk.

Wagener says that having cancer at a young age was hard, but that the outpouring of support has helped him in his recovery.

“It was really tough going into it, because I didn’t really know what to expect," Wagener says, "but through the support of my family and my friends and everyone around me, I got through it.”
