A longtime South Coast educator has been named Superintendent of one of the region’s largest school districts. Dr. Tom McCoy has been appointed as head of the Oxnard Union School District.
McCoy is already a very familiar face in the 17,000 student school district. He’s been serving as Interim Superintendent since last July. He joined the District in 2015 as the Assistant Superintendent Of Educational Services.
He’s been an educator for more than a quarter of a century, working at various school districts and organizations in Ventura and San Diego Counties. McCoy is taking over the helm of the Oxnard District at a tough time, as it faces the task of trying to educate students while coping with the pandemic.
McCoy fills the vacancy created by the departure of Penelope DeLeon, who left earlier this year to head a district in the San Gabriel Valley.
